Chapter 23: Calvin
Calvin Stratford came to the Riverside range alone at five on Wednesday morning.
He wore a gray T-shirt, jeans and no logos anywhere.
Holt, standing on the rubber mat with a bucket of balls, did not recognize him until he was halfway across the lot.
Amos stood by the gate with his arms folded and unlocked it for no one.
"Ten minutes," Holt had said on the phone. "At the place where nobody's watching."
Calvin stopped fifteen feet from the mat and kept his hands where Holt could see them.
He looked ten years older than he had on Sunday morning.
"I won't take long," he said.
"Good."
"The Tour suspended me. One year, no events, no appearances, effective Monday."
"My sponsors are gone, all four."
"I told the Tour everything, including that I pushed the general manager to change the locks."
"I'm not here to tell you I'm being punished."
