Chapter 22: Ada's POV

Ada's POV

I stood in the door of the cabin with the cold coming in around my bare ankles, and I made him wait one more breath.

Then I held out my hand.

He took it, and let me pull him up off the step.

His palm was warm and rough with healing blisters.

"I have terms," I said.

"Anything."

"Don't say anything. Listen." I shut the door behind him. "You're not the Alpha in this room. Nobody calls anybody Gamma. Nobody leaves before morning."

"Yes."

"You tell me what you want, out loud, every time. And I tell you what I want, and you don't decide for me."

"Yes."

"No bite tonight. The mark is mine to give, when I say."

His throat moved.

"Yes, Ada."

"Then take your shirt off."

He did it slowly, and I watched.

The pink line down his flank was almost healed.

I put my mouth on it, and he made a rough sound.

"Tell me," I said, against his skin.

"I want you to keep doing that."

"Good."

I walked him backward until the backs of his knees hit my bed.

I pushed, and he sat, and I stood between his thighs and pulled my shirt over my head.

His eyes went black and wolf-bright.

He didn't touch me.

His hands lay open on his knees, and they were shaking.

"You can touch," I said.

"I want to look first."

"You looked for four years."

"I never looked at you," he said. "Not like this. Not once."

That undid me more than a touch would have.

I took his face in both hands and kissed him.

It was nothing like the first time, in the storm.

It was slow, and deep, and it tasted of rain and salt.

He kissed me back hungrily, and his hands came up at last and spread over my bare back.

The pull in my chest sang.
