Chapter 24: First Sunday
On Saturday night I sat in my mother's armchair in the big bedroom in Ventnor.
Asher knelt on the rug in front of me.
He had moved the chair himself, from the corner to the middle of the room, facing the bed.
I wore the St. Anthony medal, my ring and one of his shirts, unbuttoned.
The window stood open on the bay, and the lamp was low.
"Sit back," he said.
"I am sitting back."
"Further."
I slid down in the chair until my hips were at the very edge of the cushion.
He put my left leg over one arm of the chair and my right over the other.
I was open to him, and the air from the window touched me, cool.
He looked for a long time.
"I could be looking at this when I'm ninety," he said.
"You'd be a very dirty old man."
"I'd be a happy one."
He set his mouth on the inside of my knee and kissed his way down my thigh.
His hands were warm on my hips.
The left one wore no ring, only a thin white band of skin where it had been.
He kissed me right between my legs, slow, with his eyes closed.
I made a low sound in my throat.
His tongue found my clit and drew a small circle on it, and another.
I tipped my head back against the wing of the chair.
"Your mouth," I said. "God. Your mouth, Asher."
"Tell me how."
"Slow. Don't you stop."
He did not stop.
He slid two fingers into me and curled them up and in.
He licked and sucked and worked, until the pleasure ran hot down my legs.
I put one hand in his curls and the other on the arm of the chair.
My hips lifted off the cushion.
