The knife bit deep, and Linnea cut the second line of the rune with her teeth locked.
Silver blood ran down her wrist and pooled in the sand.
Every cut burned.
"Give me your arm," she said.
Aldric held it out.
The black had crept to his shoulder, and his skin was freezing under her hand.
She set the knife to his bond mark and met his eyes.
"This will hurt."
"It cannot hurt more than watching you," he said.
She cut.
He did not make a sound, and the muscle jumped in his jaw.
Where the blade passed, the black broke into silver threads, and the threads leapt across the gap between his arm and hers.
The healer gasped.
A circle of white light bloomed around the two of them, and the sand lifted in a slow ring.
