Chapter 6: The Wedding Night

"You will not sleep in the corridor," Linnea said.

"It is a cold stone floor, and I have slept on worse."

"You married me an hour ago in front of a hundred lords."

"For the heir."

"Then why do you keep standing at my door like a guard?"

Aldric's hands closed on the doorframe.

"Because if I come in," he said, "I will not leave."

She stood.

The nightgown was thin linen, and the hearth fire shone through it.

She watched his eyes drop and stay there.

"I am twenty years old, and I have thought about the cave every hour for eleven days," Linnea said. "I lay in my own bed and I put my hand between my legs and I thought about you."

His breath left him in a ragged rush.

"Linnea."

"Come here."

He crossed the room in three strides.

He caught her face in both hands and kissed her.

Her back hit the bedpost, and she did not care.

She dragged his shirt over his head.

His chest was hard and scarred, and the silver rune on his forearm lit when she touched it.

"You have no idea," he said into her neck, "what you do to me. I am thirty-two years old, and I have never been so undone."

"Show me."

He tore the nightgown down the middle.

Cold air and then his hot hands hit her skin, and she gasped.
