Chapter 23: Mine

I woke on Saturday to light on the lake and no phone buzzing.

I lay on my back in the wide bed on the fourteenth floor and listened to nothing.

No notification, no lawyer, no clerk's window, and no one waiting on a sidewalk with a bullhorn.

Tobias had turned my phone face down on the far side of the room, and I loved him for it.

He lay on his side next to me with his head propped on his hand, watching me wake up.

His hair was a mess, the gray at his temples bright in the sun.

"Good morning, Ms. Eklund," he said.

"Good morning."

"Say it properly."

"Good morning, Ms. Eklund," I said, and laughed. "That's my name. It's only mine."

"It's only yours."

He slid his hand down my bare hip, slow, and I pushed into it.

"You haven't moved in the middle of the night," he said. "You sleep like someone who thinks they're being watched."

"I used to be."

"Not now."

He kissed my shoulder, and then the side of my neck, and I tipped my head back for him.

The sheet had gone somewhere.

His mouth traveled down my collarbone, and over my breast, and he took my nipple between his teeth until I arched off the mattress.

"Tobias."

"I've got nowhere to be," he said against my skin. "Neither do you. I'm going to take all morning."

"All morning."

"And you're going to tell me exactly what you want."

I reached down and wound my fingers in his hair.

"Lower."

He grinned against my stomach.

He kissed his way down, slowly, over my ribs and the soft place below my navel.

When he settled between my thighs I was already shaking.

He looked up at me, green eyes dark in the sun.

He put his mouth on my pussy.

I cried out and fisted my hands in the sheets.
