Chapter 15: Greenhouse
"On your back," Eliot said. "On the stone. Now."
August lay down on the warm floor of the greenhouse between the lemon tree and the potting bench.
August looked up through the glass at a black sky with no stars.
It was one in the morning on the roof.
The heaters ticked, and the air smelled of leaves and wet earth and sweet green lemon peel.
August had bought the tree the week Eliot moved in, and had not said a word about why.
Eliot stood over him in the dark with his sweater off and his hands shaking.
He had not cried at the lab.
He had read the printout four times.
He had put it down and gone up the stairs to the roof with his husband behind him.
He had said nothing since.
"Four years," he said now. "She fed me my own work."
"Eliot."
"No talking." He undid his trousers. "You went without me, and you were right, and I'm too angry to thank you. So you can lie there and be useful."
"Yes."
"Take your shirt off. And your trousers."
August stripped on the stone floor with his eyes on Eliot's face.
He was already hard.
He lay back naked among the clay pots, with the scar on his collarbone gone silver in the glass-light.
He put his hands under his head without being told.
Eliot kicked off the last of his clothes.
He looked down at the big body laid out for him, the heaving chest and the thick cock curved up against the belly.
Something wild and glad went through him.
"I'm going to sit on your face."
August's breath stopped.
"Is that all right?"
"That is the best thing anyone's ever said to me."
Eliot laughed, short and cracked, and stepped over him.
He lowered himself onto his knees on either side of the sandy head.
