Chapter 22: Both Rooms
The hotel lobby was full of cameras, and Tang Mo ran it from the revolving door to the lift.
"Left shoulder," he murmured, with his hand flat on the small of Shen's back.
"Good. Hold the trophy against your chest. Don't look at the second flash, it's a fan."
"I'm not looking at anything," said Shen.
"You're looking at me," said Tang.
"I like it," said Shen.
Tang smiled for the nearest lens, bright and warm and entirely true.
"Thank you, everyone, goodnight, he's very tired," he said to the reporters, and steered them across the marble to the lift.
The doors closed on the shouting.
In the mirrored wall of the lift, two men looked back at each other, one with his collar open and one with his hair wrecked.
"Public is done," said Tang.
"Then?" asked Shen.
"Then private. Don't say anything."
The suite on the forty-first floor had an enormous bed.
On the wall opposite it, edge to edge, hung a mirror put there by someone with very clear ideas.
Tang looked at it for a long moment, and smiled.
"Take your jacket off," said Tang.
