The lawyer opened his folder on the hall table without being asked in.
"Mrs. Wexley, the petition cites fraud," he said. "Your husband misrepresented his name and his work."
"He did," I said. "I'd like to add that I misrepresented my surprise."
He blinked at me.
"That is not a legal ground."
"It's a true one. Put both in the petition, so it's fair."
Rafferty made a sound that he turned into a cough.
The lawyer cleared his throat and slid a second sheet across the table.
"Mrs. Wexley, the family trust holds your husband's fifty-one percent. Miss Wexley is its trustee."
"I know," Rafferty said.
"She gives you seven days. If the annulment is not signed by next Sunday at noon, she calls a vote to take your voting rights."
"She'd take my company away over a marriage?"
"She said you only listen to a deadline."
