Chapter 11: All Four
They did not make it to the bedroom.
Emile had gone into the kitchen at midnight for a glass of water, wearing nothing but Gaston's shirt.
He found all four of them already there.
They stood around the big pine table in the dark, bare-chested, barefoot, and not one of them had been drinking water.
"We couldn't sleep," Fabien said.
"I thought the songs worked."
"They work. You work better." Fabien held out a hand. "Come here."
Emile put down the glass.
He crossed the flagstones, and they closed around him.
Hands pulled the shirt over his head. Mouths found his neck, his shoulder, the hollow of his hip.
Four sets of hands, he thought, wildly.
He had named them blindfolded, but never all at once.
"Table," Gaston said.
Thibault swept the salt shaker and a bowl of figs onto the floor, and Emile was lifted and laid on his back across the scrubbed pine.
The wood was cool against his spine.
Sylvain took his wrists and held them above his head, and grinned down at him upside down.
