Chapter 15: The Hearing Is Called

Keira's POV

Davenant Tower had never looked so full.

Every pack member who worked in the building stood in the atrium, three hundred people packed against the glass and the staircase rails.

They went quiet when I came through the doors with Orson at my side and Derrick a step behind.

At the far end, on a platform built for the Christmas tree, sat three elders in high-backed chairs.

The oldest of them was a stooped woman with white hair and a cane across her knees.

Broderick stood on the platform below her with his arm in a sling and a strip of gold wire wrapped around his cracked ring.

Blair stood at his shoulder in cream wool, her pale eyes already wet.

She saw me first, and her face crumpled with grief that looked real.

"Oh, Keira," she said, and the whole atrium heard her. "Thank God you came. We've all been so afraid for you."

I stopped at the foot of the platform.

"Have you?"

"You've been unwell for days." Blair turned to the crowd, one hand pressed to her pearls. "She's not herself. I've watched her for weeks. She couldn't stand to hear that Broderick had chosen a bride, and she ran straight to his rival."

A murmur went through the pack.

"On Monday she put her hands on our Alpha and threw him across his own office," Blair said. "He has three cracked ribs. His ring is broken. A wolf who has never shifted does not do that, unless something in her has gone wild."
