Chapter 15: Sisters

Rochelle's POV

My sister came off the morning boat with a rolling suitcase, a flowered shirt and a scowl.

I had texted her at midnight: Come. Don't call.

She had been in the air by five.

"You look terrible," Joanna said, and hugged me so hard my feet left the dock.

"Thank you."

"Nobody sleeps on a honeymoon, I know that. Show me the husband."

"Later. Walk with me."

I took her suitcase and led her along the planks, away from the desk and the staff and the lawns where Tripp might see her.

I told her all of it in four minutes, in a low voice, with my hand on her sleeve.

I gave her the drive last, and she turned it over in her palm.

"Stop," Joanna said. "Say the man's part again."

"Rhett was paid to seduce me, and then he didn't want to."

"He slept with you for forty thousand dollars."

"Twenty so far. He says he hasn't earned the other half, and he hasn't sent Tripp a usable photograph."

"Oh, well, in that case." My sister's voice went up two notes, and a passing waiter stepped around us. "Where is he? Which one? I'll take his kneecaps."

"Joanna."

"I'm a nurse. I know exactly where they are."

"He gave me the drive himself. He's doing what I tell him now."

"You're keeping the spy."

"I'm keeping a man Tripp thinks is his." I stopped walking. "I need Tripp to keep thinking it for one more day."
