Chapter 6: The Price of a Release

Day 5 began with ooze at nineteen logs a lump.

I had watched the price crawl up all night, and I did not touch it until the sun was high.

Then I stood at the edge of my patch, took a breath, and posted my first public offer.

LaceyOrmond: [Selling slime ooze, twenty lumps. It's the only insulation in the realm. Twenty logs each. First come, first served.]

A player: [lol who would pay 20 for trash]

SkyDragon: [Me. Ten lumps. Don't argue, I'm a grown woman with a plan.]

NoMoreBadLuck: [Five.]

Three traders I did not know bought the rest within the minute, and none of them asked what it was for.

They had watched my fire burn all night, and they had watched the ooze wall behind it.

That was all the proof anyone needed.

[Trade complete. 400 logs received.]

I had never held four hundred logs in my life.

I had never held four hundred of anything that was mine.

Two hundred more, and I would have the number.

I opened the Market again and sold ten lumps more at twenty-two, and the buyers fought each other for them.

Six hundred and thirty-one logs.

I did not celebrate.

I opened the public Bond tab instead and found the entry I wanted.

[Team Hearth. Leader: BrettMaddox. Members: TinyTurnip, and one more.]

Beside TinyTurnip's name was a small gray button.

[Release price: 600 logs. Pay the proposer to dissolve this bond.]

My hand did not shake this time.

I said it out loud in the chat first, so nobody could say I had done it quietly.
