Chapter 9: The Second Woman
Rhiannon's POV
The next woman came up the harbor road on Tuesday night at ten.
I stood at the loft window and watched her walk to the Alpha's door with her coat belted tight and her chin high.
She was tall and dark, in a good wool coat, and she did not look at the net loft once.
The door opened and shut behind her.
I turned away from the glass and sat on the cot with my hands between my knees.
I had told myself for a week that I did not care.
That had worked well enough until I knew whose hands I was imagining.
Every night since the Gaff I had lain on that cot in the dark and felt his mouth on my skin.
I felt the weight of him, and his arms shaking, and the way he said please.
The Alpha of Shackleford Reach had begged me, in a locked room, to let him come.
