Chapter 15: Donor Fourteen

Elena's POV

The Montclair clinic was dark on a Saturday night, except for the lamp over the loading bay.

Nico parked two streets away and left the engine running.

"Ten minutes," he said. "If a car turns in, I call Gina's phone and you go out the back."

"And you?"

"I'll be in the car."

"You'll be in the building."

The tray the doctor used for tissue was the third from the left.

I lifted the tray out and set it on the floor.

Behind it, taped to the back of the shelf, was a book with a green cloth cover.

It was no bigger than a prayer book.

I peeled the tape away with my thumb.

The first page had a column of dates in a doctor's tight hand, and a column of initials, and a third column of numbers.
