Chapter 13: Kenzie's Program
I did not answer Kenzie's text that night.
I did not answer it at breakfast either, and by third period it had been sitting on my phone for fourteen hours.
At lunch Dottie slid her phone across the table with a screenshot on it.
It was a page layout in the school's blue and gold, and it said FROSTBITE CLASSIC OFFICIAL PROGRAM across the top.
Page six had a blank box, a headline, and a note in Kenzie's font.
"Mystery Girl: Do You Know Her?" it said. "Photo to be placed. Print deadline Friday, 3 p.m."
"She posted a draft to the student council chat by accident," Dottie said. "Then she deleted it."
"Not before eleven people saw it."
"Twelve, counting me."
I stared at the box where a shoulder was going to go.
The program would be handed to every family at the children's hospital game.
It would be handed to nine hundred people, in a building that held more.
"She can't," I said.
"She can. She's the program chair. Nobody checks her pages."
