The Harbor Ridge Ice Arena held three thousand people, and by six o'clock on Saturday night it held almost all of them.
I stood in the tunnel in my school sweater and a Frostbite Classic lanyard, holding a microphone with both hands.
The noise from the stands came down the corridor.
Families from the children's hospital filled the first three rows, in matching blue beanies.
The booster club sat in the best seats behind the home bench.
Brock's father was in the center of them with his arms folded, in a camel overcoat.
"Say something," Dottie whispered, at my elbow.
"I'm going to throw up."
"That's not something. Try again."
"I'm a little nervous."
"Better."
Up in the media booth, high behind the far goal, Kenzie sat at the controls of the big screen with a headset on and her hair tied back.
I had asked her four times if she was sure.
Four times she had said, "I picked my side in the girls' room, Anja."
