Chapter 10: Hakone
Their room at the Hakone inn had its own bath on the balcony.
It was a square stone pool sunk into the floor, open to the sky, with steam rising off it into a grove of maples gone red for autumn.
A tall bamboo fence stood on the far side.
Beyond the fence, Shiori could hear guards.
There were four of them, in suits, standing on gravel in the cold and talking about baseball.
"They can hear everything," she said.
"They can hear a splash."
"Tatsuya."
"Then don't splash."
He was already in the water to his waist, leaning on the stone edge with his arms spread.
The sleeve of ink on each arm shone wet under the lanterns.
He looked like something that lived in a river.
Shiori sat on the rim and let her robe fall open, and slid her feet in, and then the rest of her.
The heat closed around her body.
She moved through the water to him.
He turned her by the hips so that her back was against his chest.
His arms came around her, and he put his chin on her shoulder.
"Quietly," he said, into her ear.
"Quietly."
The steam hid her face from the maples.
His hands slid up from her ribs and cupped her breasts, big and slow.
She felt the thick weight of him already hard against the base of her spine.
