Chapter 18: After the Dance
The storeroom behind the temple kitchen smelled of rice and incense and cardboard.
Manny got the door shut, and Dean wedged a mop handle under the knob.
Nobody had turned on a light.
A string of spare paper lanterns lay coiled on the floor with their little battery bulbs lit.
They threw a red glow up the shelves of folded tables.
Through the wall the taiko started again.
The drums had never really stopped.
Over them, from the loudspeaker in the courtyard, came a woman's voice.
It was small and level, and it was telling Frank about thirty-one years of her son's nose.
"Is that Ma?" Manny said.
"Yes," I said.
"I'm going to be sick," he said, and grinned, and shoved me against the wall.
His mouth came down on mine, hard and glad and shaking.
I had my arms around his neck before he finished the kiss.
I could still hear my voice going out over four hundred people, and my blood sang with it.
"You were so good," Manny said, against my lips.
"On that tower. Oshiro, you were so good."
"Say it again," I said.
"So good."
His big hands slid down my sides and gripped the knot of my sash.
Dean's fingers closed over the other side of it from behind him.
I felt them both tug.
The obi fell off my waist and landed in a heap, and my yukata gaped open on my bare skin.
I had put nothing on under it, and neither of them had asked.
Manny made a low sound of pure thanks.
"Hands up," Dean said, very low.
I put my hands flat on the wall above my head.
Dean stood behind Manny, close enough that I could see the line of his jaw in the red light.
"Lift her," he said to Manny.
"Gladly."
Manny opened his belt and his fly with one hand.
He took me by the backs of my thighs and lifted me up the wall.
My legs went around his waist.
I felt his cock against me, hot and heavy, and I reached down and took it and guided it in.
He pushed up inside me, and I cried out.
"Oh, Mari," he said.
"Oh, honey."
