I Locked Two Rival Mob Heirs In, So Neither Lets Me Go novel · Chapter 3 of 24
Chapter 3: Morning
Mari walks out between the guns, both heirs say she is with them and the truce ends, and in her kitchen Manny kneels and Dean watches until a window smashes below and a Rapoza truck burns on the Higa wharf.
I unlocked the door myself.
My blouse was torn at the shoulder, so I put my banquet jacket on over it and buttoned it to the throat.
Dean and Manny dressed behind me without a word, and neither of them looked at the other.
I picked the key off the concrete and walked out first.
The corridor was lit yellow by the emergency lights, and it was packed from wall to wall with men.
A hundred of them, both families, and every one of them went quiet at once.
Seiji Higa stood at the front of the Higas, a small gray man in a flowered shirt, with his hands folded.
Frank Rapoza stood at the front of the Rapozas, a big man with a rancher's belly, and his face was red.
"Dear," Seiji said gently, to me.
"Which one of them took you in there?"
"Nobody took anybody," I said.
"Cousin," Frank said, and he said it to the ceiling, "the Higa boy dishonored her. Look at her. She's been crying."
"I'm fine."
"She's afraid to say," Seiji told the Higas.
"The Rapoza boy kept her locked in a room all night."
"I locked it," I said.
Nobody heard me.
Behind me Manny said, loud and clear, "She's with me."
At the same moment, Dean said, "She's with me."
They turned and looked at each other.
Neither of them took it back.
A hundred men breathed out at once.
"Then the dinner is over," Seiji said sadly.
"Thirty-one years," Frank said, shaking his head, "and over."
Both of the old men turned and walked out through the same service door toward the same black car.
Their own drivers were stuck behind the storm barricade.
I thought that was funny.
I was too tired to think why.
Then I walked through the parted lines of armed men with my chin up.
My hands only started shaking when I got to the elevator.
Two cars followed me home.
My studio was above my mother's sweet-bread shop on Keawe Street, up an outside stair.
The whole building smelled of yeast and sugar even at six in the morning.
My mother had not started the ovens yet.
I let myself in, and they came in after me because I did not stop them.
It was one room with a kitchenette and a bed under a window.
The storm had gone out to sea, and the first gray light was coming in over the rooftops of Hilo.
Dean stood in the doorway and looked at every corner of the room.
Manny dropped onto the one kitchen chair and it creaked.
"I need a shower," I said, "and then I need you both to go home."
"Oshiro," Manny said, soft.
"It's morning."
I stared at him.
"Nobody owns you in the morning," he said.
"I'm not trying to. I'm trying to kneel."
My mouth went dry.
I sat on the kitchenette counter, still in my jacket, and said, "Higa, sit down."
Dean pulled out the other chair, the one at the little table, and sat.
I lifted my knees and slid my skirt up.
"Rapoza," I said.
"Yes, ma'am."
He knelt on my kitchen floor between my thighs with his big hands wrapped around my hips.
"Don't touch me," I told Dean.
"Keep your hands flat on the table. Watch."
Dean laid both hands on the table.
His jaw tightened, and his eyes went to Manny's shoulders and then to my face.
"Whatever you want," he said.
Manny dragged my underwear to one side with his thumb and breathed against me, hot.
Then he licked into me.
He licked slow and heavy, up the center and around.
I put my hand on the back of his head and held on to his curly hair.
"Higa," I said, and my voice shook.
"Look at me while he does it."
Dean looked.
I watched his hands stay flat on my table, whitening at the knuckles, while Manny sucked my clit between his lips.
Manny hummed against me and slid two fingers inside, curling, and found the place that made me gasp.
"That's it," Manny muttered into my skin.
"That's my girl."
"I'm not your girl," I said.
"Say that again when you're coming," he said.
I laughed, and the laugh broke into a moan.
I put my other hand out toward Dean.
"Now," I said.
He was out of the chair before I finished the word.
He stood at my side, one palm cradling my jaw, and he kissed me slowly and thoroughly.
I kissed him back with my mouth open while Manny's tongue worked, and Dean's free hand slid into my jacket and found my breast.
He pinched my nipple, gently, and I cried out against his mouth.
"There," Dean said quietly.
"Come for us."
I came with my fingers locked in Manny's hair and Dean's mouth on mine.
My thighs clamped around Manny's ears.
He held me through all of it, groaning, lapping at me, and he did not stop until I pushed him off.
They did not stop.
Dean's fingers slid down my belly and joined Manny's tongue, and I felt two of them inside me at once, one hand and one mouth.
I came a second time before the first had finished, with a hoarse cry, my head against the cabinet.
Manny pressed his forehead to my thigh, laughing and shaking.
Dean kissed my temple and said, "Again, if you can."
I could not.
I told them so, and they both seemed pleased.
The kitchen was quiet.
Manny sat back on his heels, wiping his chin, and he looked up at me with his whole face open.
"Mari," he said.
Before anyone could say anything else, a crash came up through the floor, and glass sprayed across the street.
My mother screamed down in the shop.
Manny's phone rang in his pocket at the same moment, and he put it to his ear.
Then he went white under his tan.
"They burned a truck," he said.
"A Rapoza truck, on the Higa wharf."
