Nobody moved.
A hundred people sat at folding tables with paper plates in their laps and watched my ex-husband weave across the gravel toward me.
The old man in the lawn chair beside me put down his fork.
Matt stood up from his crouch.
He stepped to my left shoulder and stopped there.
Three feet.
Ian stopped a few yards from my chair and swayed.
"Look at this," he said, waving the champagne bottle at the yard. "Look at you. Feet on a cooler. Paper plates. This is what you picked?"
"Go home, Ian."
"I am home. You're my home." He laughed at that, like it was clever.
"Come on, Al. Tori's gone. I'm sorry about Tori. I'll get you the company back. We'll fix LUMEN together. We'll do the family photo. I'll be good."
"The judge signed the custody order this morning," I said.
He blinked at me.
"So?"
"So I'm not your wife and I'm not your photo. Go home."
His face changed.
The sloppy smile went, and something meaner came up under it, the board-meeting face with the brakes off.
"You think these people like you?" he said, loud, turning in a circle. "You think this is real?
