Chapter 19: Her Bed

Lena's POV

My bed was a full, and Nikos Galanis took up all of it.

His feet hung over the end, and his shoulder was against the wall.

It was a Saturday in the middle of November.

It was the first night he had come to my place instead of making me come to his.

The radiator under the window clanked.

Down in the corner store, someone dragged a crate across the floor and swore.

I sat on his stomach in a T-shirt and nothing else.

I had both his wrists pinned above his head against the old iron headboard.

"You don't fit," I said.

"I fit," he said.

"Your feet are in the hall."

"I can feel that."

I leaned down and kissed him, and he laughed into my mouth.

The bed groaned under us.

It was a narrow cheap bed I had bought secondhand at twenty-two, and I had never loved it so much.

He let me hold his wrists for exactly as long as he wanted to.

Then he turned his hands in mine and took mine instead.

I slid back along his body until I sat across his hips.

He wore only his shorts, and he was hard under the cotton.

I rocked on him slowly, dragging myself along the thick ridge of him with nothing between us but that thin cloth.

I was already wet, and I felt it soak through.

He groaned and gripped my thighs.

"You're ruining my shorts," he said.

"I'll buy you new ones."

"Lena."

"Hold still," I said, and ground down harder.

His head went back against the pillow, and the cords of his neck stood out.

"Come here," Nikos said, when he could speak. "Let me have you in your own bed."

"It's tiny."

"Then I'll have to be creative."

He sat up, ducking under the low ceiling light, and pulled the T-shirt over my head.

He took a long moment to look.

The lamp on the nightstand had a crooked yellow shade, and I watched his face in it.

"I want to say something," he said.

"Say it," I said.

"You live in a place with a radiator that bangs and a window that doesn't close."
