Chapter 9: The Two Years

I woke up at nine, to the smell of coffee and the sound of somebody being very bad at singing.

Eli was in the kitchen in a pair of gray sweatpants and nothing else.

He was burning toast.

"You can't sing," I said from the doorway.

"I'm aware."

"Why are you doing it?"

"Because nobody's counting." He scraped the black toast into the sink. "I used to think I was bad at everything I didn't practice. I've decided that's a rule for other people."

I came up behind him and put my arms around his waist.

He went still for a second, and then he relaxed against me.

"Morning," he said.

"Morning."

"Did you sleep?"

"I slept like I was paid for it."

I felt him laugh against my forearm.

Then I felt him turn around, and his hands were in my hair, and the coffee grew cold on the counter.

I was wearing one of his shirts.

It came to my thighs, and it didn't stay on long.

He lifted me onto the counter and kissed down my throat to the open collar.

"I have a shower," he said into my skin. "A good one."

"Are you advertising?"

"I'm making a very specific offer."

He carried me down the hall.

The bathroom was small and white, and the water ran hot almost instantly.

He stood me under it and stepped in behind me, and I felt his whole body line up against my back.

His hands slid around to my breasts, and he kissed the back of my neck, and his cock pressed hard against me.
