Chapter 13: Wrap
I looked down at the phone on the concrete.
Mom had both hands over her mouth.
Captain had stopped sorting screws.
"I won't sign tonight," I said.
"Nobody asked you to sign tonight," the head of content said. "Noon on Friday next week. Take the weekend. Take a bath. Then sign."
She hung up.
The garage was so quiet I could hear the lemon tree scratching the window.
Lennon picked up the notebook off my lap and closed it gently.
"How many shoot days left?" he asked.
"Eight."
"Then we shoot eight."
I looked at him.
"You can be sad about the pages on day eleven," he said. "I'll bring snacks."
Mom laughed, wet and surprised.
We shot eight.
Day three, the fog came in so thick the pier vanished, and I rewrote two scenes so the fog was the point.
Day five, a seagull stole the boom kid's sandwich on camera, and Izzy kept it in episode nineteen.
Day six, Mom learned to call "last looks" and started saying it to customers.
Day eight, Captain's lemon tree ran out of lemons, because props had used them all in the kitchen scene.
