Chapter 16: Labor Day
The hot water had a forty-minute tank, and on Labor Day morning I intended to use all forty.
I had Ed against the lemon curtain with a bar of soap in my hand and nothing else on.
"Hold your arms up," I said.
"You've got soap in your eye."
"That's your problem. Arms."
He lifted them.
He had to bend his head under the pipe, and the water ran off his beard in a rope.
I lathered his chest first, the thick dark gold hair and the heavy muscle under it.
I washed the white scar at his shoulder, which I knew now was a table-saw kickback in 2004.
I washed his ribs.
I washed the line of his stomach down to the belt of hair at his navel.
He watched me do it with his eyes going slowly black.
"You're doing that on purpose," he said.
"I'm being thorough."
"You're being a menace."
"Turn around."
He turned.
His back was a wide wet map of freckles.
I ran the soap down his spine, and over his ass, and between his thighs from behind.
When my soapy hand closed around him he put both palms flat on the tile and said a word that was mostly breath.
I stroked him slowly, slick with lather.
He was already thick in my hand and growing.
"Lori."
"You're not allowed to move."
"That's not fair."
"I'm the one with the soap."
I worked him until the muscles in his back stood out and his forehead dropped against the green tile.
I felt him throb.
I stopped.
He groaned.
"Now it's my turn," I said, and rinsed my hands, and put my back against the cold wall.
He turned and looked at me.
"Kneel," I said.
I had never said that to a man.
He sank down in the tub with the water raining on his shoulders.
I hooked my left leg over his shoulder and opened myself to him, and he pushed his face between my thighs.
His mouth was hot and wet in the hot wet air.
I threw my head back.
He licked me in broad slow strokes, then the tip of his tongue, a tight spiral.
Then his hands came up under my ass to hold me against his face.
I clutched his wet hair.
"Right there," I said. "Right there, Ed, oh my God. Don't you stop."
He didn't.
He slid two fingers into me and curled them against the front wall.
The tongue and the fingers moved together.
The sound I made came back at me off the tile.
The pressure gathered.
I fought it, because I wanted it to last, and then I wanted it to end, and then it was over my head.
I came with my fist in his hair, grinding down onto his mouth, my heel shaking against his back.
He took it all.
He didn't stop until I pulled on his hair and said, "Up. Up. Now."
He rose out of the water.
His mouth shone.
He took my face in his hands and kissed me, and I tasted myself and the soap and a little of the steam.
"Lift me," I said.
"Here?"
"Here. Right now."
He bent and caught me under the thighs.
