Chapter 14: Billable

Marlee's POV

I tied his left wrist to the iron slats of my headboard with his own gray tie.

He let me.

He sat on the edge of my bed in his shirtsleeves with his holster already on my bookshelf, and he held the wrist out the way a man holds it out for a watch.

"Tell me to stop," I said.

"No, ma'am."

I looped the tie twice and knotted it.

Then I took the leather belt from his trousers, because the tie had only been long enough for one hand, and I did the right.

He lay back on my pillows with both arms over his head and his chest rising.

I stood over him in my father's flannel pants and his gray jacket.

"Here is how it works," I said. "Your rule is about a man's wife. I am not Colt's wife tonight. I am not anybody's. You can't see that yet."

"Ms. Dunavant."

"So I'm making it so nothing you do counts. You can't touch me. You can't leave. Whatever happens in this bed, you didn't do it. I did."

His eyes had gone black and enormous.

"That's a loophole," Josiah said.

"It is the first one you've ever had. Take it."

I shrugged out of his jacket and let it fall.

I took off the flannel shirt I had slept in, and the pants, and I stood in front of him in my underwear and nothing else.

He looked at me with his whole face.

"You are not allowed to say anything level," I said. "That's the new game."

"What's the old game?"

"Yours. Hold the note. This one is for you."

I unbuttoned his shirt, slowly, from the bottom up, and spread it open on both sides.

I laid my palm on his chest and felt his heart going hard under the gray hair.

I opened his belt buckle where it was left, and his button, and his zipper, and I drew his trousers down his legs and dropped them over the side of the bed.

His cock stood up against his stomach, thick and dark, and already wet at the tip.

I reached into my nightstand drawer.

I took out a folded fifty-dollar bill and laid it on his stomach, just above the head of his cock.
