Chapter 10: First Time Without a Clock

Hannah's POV

I found him in the kitchen at nine that night, rinsing a pot he had already washed.

"I stopped last time at twenty minutes," I said from the doorway.

He turned off the water.

"I noticed."

"It wasn't you."

"I noticed that too."

"It's what my body does. It's been taught to, and I don't know how to unteach it."

"Then we don't untrain it tonight," Drew said. "We just don't let anything end."

"How do I do that?"

"You tell me when you want it to stop, and I stop. That's the only clock in here."

I crossed the kitchen and took the towel out of his hands.

"I don't want it to stop."

"Then it doesn't."

I put my palm flat on his chest and felt his heart going under it, steady and hard.

I pulled his shirt up over his head myself.

He let me.

He stood there with his arms at his sides, broad and warm, the old white scars on his forearms.

I kissed the center of his chest and felt him shudder.

"Hannah."

"Bed," I said.

He picked me up, and I wrapped my legs around his waist and kissed him all the way down the hall.

I had left my phone in a drawer.

In his room there was a lamp on the dresser and a bed with a gray quilt.

He set me down on the edge of it and knelt on the floor between my knees.

He took off my sweater, then my bra, and when he looked at me his eyes went dark.

"You're beautiful," he said, and sounded like it hurt.

His mouth closed over my nipple and I arched up with a gasp.

He sucked slowly, then harder, his hand cupping my other breast, and heat rolled down through my stomach.
