My Panther Mate & Our Little Cub novel · Chapter 19 of 24

Chapter 19: Brannoch Falls

The lion that tore out of Brannoch's skin filled half the hall.

It had gold fur and a black-edged mane.

Its roar blew the lamps sideways and brought a hanging down in a cloud of dust.

"Take him!" I screamed, and shoved Tuck into the lioness's arms.

She caught him without hesitation.

Something in her had woken, and it knew exactly what a cub in danger needed.

She bolted for the side door with Tuck clutched to her chest.

The lion leapt after them.

Darek hit him in midair.

I had never seen Darek shift so fast.

One breath he was a man in a bloodied shirt.

The next he was a black panther the size of a pony, with all his fury in his shoulders.

They crashed into the long table and the table exploded.

Cups and plates went everywhere.

The gray hunters in the doorway had drawn knives.

I saw two of them look toward the road, where the whole clan stood stacked up behind.

I looked for a weapon.

I saw a hearth poker and thought it was ridiculous.
