Dalton tapped the microphone once.
The sound boomed out over the harbor windows.
"Twenty years ago, my father started this company with one truck," he said. "I was going to talk about that tonight."
He looked at Marissa.
"I'm going to talk about this instead."
Marissa took a step toward him.
"Dalton, please. Not like this."
"You picked like this."
He turned back to the room.
"In January, I let my assistant take over my household accounts. My wife was eight months pregnant. I wanted her to rest."
He said it steadily. I could see his hand shaking on the microphone.
"Every month since then, I sent eighty thousand dollars to my home. My wife received eight hundred."
A woman near the front put her hand over her mouth.
