Chapter 5: The Bath

At nine the next night, Mio carried the last bucket of hot water up to Caspian's bath.

The tub was copper and the size of a small boat, and she had filled it herself.

She had carried the eleventh bucket in when he said, from behind her, "Lock it."

She turned the key.

He stood in the bathroom door in a dark robe, with his hair wet and his feet bare, and his eyes were already hungry.

"My lord, the water will cool."

"Then get in before it does."

"I'm the maid," she said, because it was the last argument she had.

"You are the woman who lay on top of me in the attic and made me forget my own name."

He crossed the room.

"I have not stopped thinking about it. Take off your apron."

She untied it.

He undid the buttons down the back of her dress, one at a time.

His knuckles brushed her spine, and each button made her breath shorter.

The dress fell, and then the shift, and she stood naked in the steam with her arms over her chest.

"Don't," he said, and lifted her wrists away, gently. "Let me look."

He looked for a long time.

She was small and soft, with full hips and a belly that curved, and freckles across her nose and shoulders.

Nobody had ever looked at her like this.

"You are lovely," Caspian said, flat and sure.

Her eyes stung.

He took her hand and helped her over the rim of the tub.

The water was hot enough to make her sigh.

He dropped his robe, and she forgot about the water.

He was all lean muscle and old scars, with a long white line over his ribs and a puckered mark on his shoulder.

His cock stood hard and heavy against his stomach.

He stepped into the tub behind her and sat, and drew her back against his chest.

His arms came around her.

For a while he only held her, with his chin on her wet hair.

"Your hair," he said. "I want to wash it."

"All right."

He poured warm water over her head from a copper jug and worked soap into her scalp with his fingertips.

She had never known that this could feel so good.

Her eyes closed, and a small sound escaped her.

"Good," he murmured. "You like that."

"Mm."

"Tell me what you like."

"Your hands," she said. "Everywhere."

His hands slid from her hair to her shoulders, and down her arms, and around to her breasts.

He cupped them, heavy and wet, and ran his thumbs across her nipples until they hardened into points.

She arched into his palms.

"Caspian."

"Yes."

"I want you to touch me."

"I am touching you."

"Lower."

He laughed against her ear, a rough, surprised breath that was almost a laugh, and she felt it through her whole back.

One hand drifted down her belly, slowly, and slipped between her thighs.

He parted her with two fingers.

Under the hot water she was slippery and swollen, and when his thumb found her clit, she cried out.

"Shh." He stroked her in slow circles. "You are going to be quiet for me and come."

"Then I am going to do it again."

"Again?"

"I have a great deal to catch up on."

He worked her patiently, his chin on her shoulder, until she was limp and shaking against his chest.

Then he turned her.
