Chapter 23: Ask Me Again
I took the collar off at the door of the suite and put it in his hands.
"Ask me," I said.
Dominic looked down at it.
The black leather lay across both his palms, narrow and plain, with the small silver ring.
"I asked you in your study," he said. "You asked me. It was done."
"That was a night when I was angry and afraid and you had hurt me. I chose it then." I stepped closer. "Now nobody is chasing me. Nobody sold me. I'm standing in your suite on a Friday, on my own feet, and I want to hear you ask."
His throat moved.
"Ariella," he said. "Will you wear my collar?"
"Why?"
"Because I want to see it on you every day." He didn't look away. "Because it is the only thing I've ever wanted to give someone and not take. Because you can take it off whenever you want and I'll thank you for putting it on."
"Say it once more."
"Will you wear it?"
"Yes."
I turned and lifted my hair.
He fastened the buckle at my nape, and his knuckles brushed my skin, and they weren't shaking.
"There," he said.
"Now take me to bed."
He had the rope waiting on the shelf, and a velvet bag I'd never seen.
He undressed me slowly at the foot of the bed.
He kissed each piece of skin as it came uncovered, my shoulder, my ribs, the soft place under my navel.
Then he picked up the rope.
"Arms back. Now."
"Yes, sir."
He wound it across my chest in a pattern he had learned for me. It went above my breasts and below them, and between, and he knotted it at my back.
The cords pressed my skin and held me up.
