Six Years As His Luna. He Only Wanted My Sister novel · Chapter 5 of 24

Chapter 5: Odette's Tea

"Not supposed to?" I said. "You let your mother call me barren in front of three hundred people."

Bastian's voice dropped.

"I would have stopped her."

"You sat there."

"I was deciding how to end it quietly."

"You had six years to be quiet," I said. "Now it is loud."

His eyes went to Elias, who stood a pace behind my shoulder with his hands at his sides.

"Leave us," Bastian said.

Elias did not move.

"Luna?" he asked me.

"Stay," I said.

Bastian's expression tightened for a second.

"We will speak later," he said, and he walked away down the corridor with his back very straight.

My hands began to shake.

"Sit," Elias said gently, and he opened the door of the small sitting room beside us.

I sat in the window seat. He stayed standing by the door.

The room was warm and smelled of old books.

A minute later there was a knock, and my sister came in with a tray.

"I brought tea," Odette said.

She set the tray on the table and poured a cup with careful hands. Steam rose off it, sweet with honey and something green.

"It is the blend you always drank at night," she said. "Valerian and honey. Bastian's mother used to have it sent to your wing."

I took the cup because my fingers were cold.

"Thank you."

She sat beside me and put her hand over mine.

"I know you hate me right now," she said softly. "I would too. But I never wanted to hurt you. I only want to be family again. We could share the Luna's work. You know the pack, I do not. You could stay in the east rooms. I would ask Bastian."

I looked at her pretty, tearful face.
