Chapter 17: Harrington's Office
The offices of Harrington Capital sat above the bank on Western Avenue, behind a glass wall you could see through from the street.
At twelve-ten on Tuesday I walked in with Amos on one arm and his cane in the other hand.
"Nobody knows we're coming," he said happily. "It's the only way I enjoy a lunch."
The receptionist stood up.
"Do you have an appointment?"
"I have a letter," I said, and held up the cream envelope.
"And I have an appetite," said Amos.
We went past her down the hall.
The glass conference room held a long table, a tray of sandwiches and five people.
Colin Harrington sat at the head, with three partners on his left, two men and a woman, in good suits.
Blythe sat on his right, in white, with a salad she wasn't eating.
Colin saw me, and the color left his pink face in a slow tide.
"Miss Ostlund," he said. "This is a private meeting."
"I know," I said. "I won't take long."
I crossed the carpet and laid his letter in front of him.
