Chapter 17: Say Her Name

He knocked on my door at ten that night, and I let him in before he could say a word.

He had a paper lease in his hand. It was four pages, and it said ten years and full rent.

"Hal drew it," he said. "I haven't signed it. I wanted you to read it first."

"Is that why you came?"

"It's the reason I gave Hal."

"And the real one?"

He put the lease down on my table.

"I haven't been able to be in a room without wanting you," he said. "It's been the worst two weeks of my life."

"You did it in the light," I said. "I watched."

"I know you did."

"So I'm not saying yes to the lease."

I took his tie in my fist and pulled him down the hall.

My bedroom was dark except for the streetlight through the blinds.

He stopped at the foot of the bed and held my face in both hands.

"Tell me what you want," he said.

"I want you to stop being careful."

His breath caught, and then his mouth was on mine, hard.

I unbuttoned his shirt with shaking hands. He tore my sweater over my head and dropped it somewhere.

We fell onto the mattress together, his weight on me, his hands everywhere.

He kissed down my throat to my breast and took my nipple in his mouth.

I arched and gripped his hair.

"Ansel."

"Yes."

His hand slid down my stomach, under the waistband, and stroked me through my wet underwear.

"God, you're soaked."

"Take them off."

He pulled them down my legs and threw them aside.

Then he settled between my thighs and put his mouth on me.
