Chapter 4: The Wrong Blood

"I'm not dropping it," I said.

Torben nodded once.

"I didn't think you would."

"They'll fire her."

"They might try," he said. "Rask Freight carries a pension fund, and it has an opening for a hospital liaison. She doesn't have to take it."

"She won't take it."

"Then I'll offer it every year until she's tired of me."

I almost smiled, and I didn't want to.

"Let's finish your intake," she said. "The ER sent over your blood work, but I need a few family details for the genetic screening."

"Okay."

"Your blood type is AB negative."

"I think so."

"It's in the chart. Is your mother's type known?"

"She's O," I said. "She donates every eight weeks. She has a card in her wallet."

The doctor nodded and wrote it down.

Then she stopped writing.
