Chapter 22: Blood Moon
Promontory Point is a spit of limestone and grass that sticks out into Lake Michigan.
At five o'clock on the twenty-first of December, it held five hundred people and one old stone.
The Moon Stone stood at the tip, waist high and grey, with the prophecy carved into it in letters worn almost smooth.
The wolves stood on the left, in coats and boots.
The Court stood on the right, in black, with the Council in a row at the front.
Dorothea Lisle sat in the middle chair, in grey cashmere and pearls, with a face.
The sky over the lake was the color of a bruise.
Behind the clouds, a red edge was beginning to show.
Brant stood at my left, human, in a clean white shirt with the sleeves rolled up.
Benedict stood at my right, in a black coat.
I stood between them with my wrist raised and the gold-ringed mark burning on it.
"Before we begin," I said.
My voice carried across the grass.
"I'd like the Council to hear something."
Dorothea's head turned.
