Chapter 20: The Long Night
We did not make it past the front hall.
It was Friday night, six days after the gala, and I had barely closed my door before he had me against it.
His coat hit the floor, and my bag, and my keys, with a crash I did not hear.
He had spent the day at the museum filing the paperwork that made him a full-time employee.
He now had a badge that said SAM TESSAR, and a salary, and a pension plan.
He had walked home across the bridge in a high humming mood.
"I have been thinking about this since lunch," he said against my neck.
"What have you been thinking?"
"This."
He dropped to his knees on my hall rug and shoved up my skirt.
He pulled my tights and my underwear down to my ankles in one rough tug.
I had my back flat against the door and my hands braced on the coat hooks.
He put my left leg over his shoulder and opened me with his thumbs.
"Oh, you're..."
"Silence," he said, in his old voice, the one from the night he ordered me to the bedroom, and my mouth shut.
He went at me with his tongue.
He went hungry and greedy, and I was dripping before he had finished the first stroke.
I came standing up in my coat in the hall, in under three minutes.
My boot heel was dug into his back and my head banged on the wood.
He licked up every drop.
"One," he said, and stood, and kissed me with my taste on his mouth.
"One what?"
"One room."
I was laughing too hard to answer.
He picked me up by the backs of my thighs and carried me into the living room.
He dropped me on the couch.
It is a small green couch with two arms and a faded throw.
