Chapter 16: Rizzo's Club
"Ten minutes," Silvio said in the car. "Then you come through the alley door."
"Four, one, nine, zero."
"If he sees you early, she dies."
Vittorio's hand was white on the steering wheel.
"If he touches you," he said, "I will not wait ten minutes."
"Then don't give me a reason to need you early."
Vittorio pulled up a block from the club, turned off the engine, and kissed him once, hard, with his hand locked behind Silvio's skull.
"Go," he said.
Silvio walked.
The Rizzo club was a converted bank on Weybosset Street with a green awning and two bouncers.
They patted him down twice and took his phone.
Then they walked him through the dark dance floor, past the cold storage doors, and down a concrete staircase.
The basement room had one bulb and a metal table.
Gianna sat in a chair with her hands tied, her lip split, her chin up.
When she saw him she shook her head hard.
"Silvio, no."
"It's fine."
"It is not fine!"
Dario stood by the table with a sheet of paper and a pen.
He wore the white open collar and the gold chain, and he looked pleased with himself.
