Chapter 10: The Equipment Room
The equipment room was at the end of the tunnel, a windowless cage of shelves packed with pads, sticks, and spare skates.
Torin shouldered the door shut behind them and shot the bolt.
Then he pushed Ansel up against a rack of helmets and kissed him.
His lip was split, and it bled into the kiss.
Ansel tasted copper and salt, and he held on to Torin's jersey with both fists and kissed him harder.
"You hit him," Ansel said against his mouth.
"I'd hit him again."
"You could have been suspended."
"I will be."
Torin dragged the jersey over his head and let it fall.
His chest was bare, shining with sweat, marked red along the ribs where the ice had caught him.
He looked wild and enormous in the cramped space, and Ansel stopped talking.
"On your knees," Torin said.
Ansel's breath caught.
He stood there, nineteen, quiet, a man who had never knelt for anyone, and he found the idea made him dizzy.
