Chapter 21: The Last Night
We didn't go to the press room that night.
We went back to my suite, and Mercer locked the door, and for a full minute nobody said anything.
Then I said, "I'm not luck."
They turned to look at me.
"I need you to hear that.
Whatever happens tomorrow, whatever he does with that file, I'm not the reason you win.
If you touch me tonight, it's not for the final.
It's not for a goal.
It's because you want me."
"Harlow," Dex said.
"I mean it."
"We want you," said Bram, very simply.
"We wanted you before any of it."
"Then show me," I said.
"Not for luck.
Just for me."
Mercer stepped close.
He took my jaw in his hand and tilted my face up, and his eyes were dark and still.
"On the bed," he said.
"On your back."
I went.
I lay on the white sheet and looked up at the three of them.
They stood over me in the lamplight, with grass still caught in their hair.
"We're going to claim you," Mercer said.
