Chapter 9: The Shower
Sigrid's POV
We were barely through the door when I pushed him against it.
My hands shook, and it wasn't the cold.
"You growled at a council wolf in front of two hundred people," I said.
"I did," Casimir said.
"You resigned a seat you'd already lost," I said.
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because I wanted them to see I'd got nothing to gain," he said.
I stared at his mouth.
I wanted to believe him.
I had wanted to believe a man before, and he had given me a house and a promise.
"Is it a move against Leighton?" I said. "Tell me the truth."
"If I wanted a move against Leighton, I'd have fought him for the pack," he said.
"I could have won it. I thought about it every night for a year."
"Then why not?"
"Because you'd have been the prize," he said. "And you're not."
He cupped my face in both hands, gently.
"I'd have asked you with no pack watching," he said. "In your kitchen, with flour on my hands."
