Chapter 23: The Long Night

My old room had not changed either.

The same narrow bed stood under the same window.

It was the window I had climbed out of the night I ran.

Cade shut the door and turned the lock.

For a moment neither of us moved.

"Say it again," I said.

"What?"

"What you said in the hall."

"I'm yours." He crossed the floor in three strides. "I choose it."

He kissed me against the door, and the kiss was nothing like the others.

It was hungry, and it was sure, and there was no fear in it at all.

I felt his wolf in it, huge and warm and finally unleashed.

I felt mine rise to meet him.

My eyes went hot.

He pulled back to look at me, breathing hard, and his own eyes were gold.

"Silver," he said, almost reverent. "Both of you."

"Both of us want you."

I put my hand in the middle of his chest.

I pushed him back across the room until the bed caught his knees.

"Sit."

He sat.

His whole body went slack, and then taut again, and he looked up at me with his lips parted.

"You didn't mean that as an order," he said.

"I meant it as a request."

"Then ask me for something else."

"Take your shirt off."

He pulled it over his head and dropped it.

His scars lay pale across his ribs in the lamplight.

I knelt on the bed behind him, and I put my mouth to the first one.

He shuddered all the way down.

"I've wanted to do this since the rink," I said against his skin.

I kissed each pair of marks from the top of his spine to the base, one by one.

By the end his hands were fisted in the blanket.
