Celia held the microphone still until the guests stopped talking.
Gregory stood beside her without trying to smile for photographs.
"We wanted you to hear this from us," Celia said.
I looked toward Pippa and found her holding Finlay's hand.
She already knew what her parents were going to say.
That mattered more than any explanation to the guests.
"Gregory and I have agreed to separate," Celia told them.
"We've been deciding how to do it for a while."
A woman near the bar put her glass down too quickly.
Gregory waited until she'd caught the little spill with a napkin.
"There's nobody to take sides against," he said.
"Please don't ask our daughter to choose."
Celia looked at him and then at me.
"I've been unfair to my sister," she said.
