Mitch's POV
Molly fell asleep at two in the morning with the policy binder still open on her knees.
I took it out of her hands and set it on the table.
Then I stood in the dark of my own living room and called Esther Pickett, who answered on the first ring.
"Walter had a grass strip," she said, before I'd finished the question. "Forty minutes south of Kankakee. A Quonset hangar and a windsock. Richard learned to land there."
"Is it still the company's?"
"It's the family's. He still has the key."
I looked down the hall at the bedroom door.
I'd promised Molly we would go together.
I'd also seen her face when she read that beneficiary line.
She'd been the knight for eighteen years. She'd never been told that her father had priced her.
I left her a note on the counter and took the keys to the truck.
