The photographer stayed on the step while Caroline tried to explain natural pictures.
"People like seeing families together," she told us.
Audrey stood beside me in the doorway.
"We're together," she answered.
Caroline looked past us toward the table.
Hallie was carrying a bowl of grated cheese from the kitchen.
Victor was trying to make room for the butter without moving his own sandwiches.
Edith stood behind me, waiting to know whether she could return to the loaf.
"Exactly," Caroline said.
"It would show how ordinary this is."
The photographer lowered the case from his shoulder.
"We can reschedule," he offered.
"We didn't book you," I told him.
"I'm sorry you've come unnecessarily."
He nodded without blaming us for the misunderstanding.
Caroline opened her tote bag.
