Chapter 12: The Report

Leander reached the ladder first.

He went down it in three jumps, and Chris followed with his heart pounding.

By the time they burst out onto the dock, the rain had thinned to a cold mist.

Bradford stood at the far end by the boat ramp with his phone in one hand and a broad, satisfied smile.

He was not hiding.

"Hey, Lee," he said.

"Delete that."

"Which one? I got a lot."

"Bradford."

"Enough to get him expelled."

"One of the loft, one of the stolen power strip, one of his little bed."

"Send those to the dean, and Chesbro is off campus by Friday."

Bradford tilted his head.

"And there's you, kissing him. That one's for me."

Chris stopped breathing.

He did not care about the kiss.

He cared that the other pictures had a bed in them.

"It's none of your business what I do," Leander said.

"It's my business when my best friend gets played by a charity case."

"He didn't play me."

"He lives in a shed, Lee."

"He's a liar and a squatter, and he works for the grounds company on the side."

"Did you know that? I called them."

Chris went cold.

"You called my job?"

"The supervisor was very helpful. Cash, no papers, the Field House doesn't even have him on the books." Bradford grinned. "The school will love that."

Leander moved so quickly that Chris barely saw it.

He took Bradford by the front of his jacket and shoved him against a dock post.
