Chapter 5: The Carriage House
The carriage house sat behind the main house, down a gravel path under bare trees.
I knocked once with snow on my shoulders, and Leo opened the door before I could knock again.
He wore the grey T-shirt and the cardigan, and he was barefoot.
"You're early," he said.
"I told you I'd come tonight."
"You said after supper. It's a quarter past nine."
"The staff stairs close at nine." I pulled off my coat. "I came the long way, outside, with great respect for the rules."
He laughed and stepped back to let me in.
The room was one big space with a stone fireplace and a leather couch.
A bed stood on a raised platform behind a low shelf of books.
The fire was going, and the lamps were low.
The door stood open behind me, and a cold stripe of air ran across the floor.
I looked at it, and I looked at him.
"Leave it," Leo said gently. "Please. It's how we do things here."
"Nobody closes doors in this house," I said. "I know. You told me."
"That's right."
"I do."
I pushed it shut with my hip and turned the bolt.
Leo watched me do it, and the smile left his face and left something warmer behind.
"I wanted you to ask me that," he said.
"Ask what?"
"Whether you could." He came toward me across the rug. "Not whether it was allowed."
"Tell me what to do," I said.
He put one hand against the side of my face.
"Start with the sweater," Leo said. "Lift it over your head and drop it on the floor."
I did.
"Now the boots. Sit on the couch and take them off."
I sat and unlaced them while he stood over me, and my hands were not quite steady.
"Good," he said. "That's very good, Siobhan."
Each time he said it, a slow warmth went through me.
I understood then what his brother had never said aloud.
Nobody refused Leo, because refusing him would mean not wanting to.
"Jeans next," he said.
I stood, undid them and pushed them down to my ankles.
I stood in front of the fire in a black bra and underwear, and he took his time looking.
"You're so beautiful," he said, in the voice he'd use for the weather. "Do you know that?"
"I know I'm cold."
"Then come here and get warm."
He sat back on the couch and held out one hand.
I took it, and he drew me down astride his lap.
His sweatpants were soft under my knees, and he was hard against the thin cotton between my legs.
I rolled my hips once against him, to see, and his eyes closed.
"That's not an order," Leo said thickly.
"I know."
"It's a very good idea."
He slid his hands up my back and unhooked my bra.
He drew the straps down my arms, and he looked at my breasts and then at my face.
"Tell me what you want," he said.
"I want your mouth."
"Where?"
"There," I said.
His mouth closed over my nipple, and I gasped and arched.
His hand held the small of my back steady.
He licked slowly and drew on it until I was moaning, and then he moved to the other and did the same.
I dragged my fingers through his hair.
"Take your shirt off," I said.
"Say please," he murmured against my skin.
I pulled back and looked at him.
