Chapter 10: The Night

Danica's POV

He set me on my feet beside his bed and did not let go of my face.

The lamp was low, and the cabin smelled of cedar and him.

"Tell me when you want to stop," Ansel said.

"I'll tell you when I want more."

His mouth curved.

He kissed me again, deep and slow, and his hands went to the hem of my sweater and lifted it over my head.

The cold air touched my skin, and then his palms did, wide and rough and hot on my ribs.

I pulled at his shirt until he reached back and tore it off in one move.

His chest was broad and scarred, and I put my mouth against the hard line of his collarbone.

He shuddered.

"Guest," he said roughly, as I undid his belt. "You told me you were a guest."

"I'm a guest who says yes."

"Say it again."

"Yes."

He unhooked my bra and let it fall, and his breath left him.

"Look at you," he said.

He cupped my breasts in both hands and ran his thumbs across the nipples until they were tight and aching.

I gasped.

He bent his head and took one in his mouth, and I knotted my fingers in his hair.

My knees went.

He caught me, and laid me back across the quilt.

He knelt and dragged my jeans down my legs, and my underwear with them, and then he just looked.

I had never been looked at like that.

Carson had always looked at me quickly, with the lights off.

Ansel looked at me for a long time, and he did not hurry.

"Ansel."

"I'm here."

He put his mouth on my inner thigh and kissed his way upward, slow, until I was shaking.
