Chapter 10: The Reeds and the Rain

By breakfast, Xiaohe's red posters had invited forty-three boats to the narrows.

By noon, Luoyi had Zhuyuan pinned against the old pier post there, in the rain.

They had walked out to look at the bend, to see how bad forty-three boats would be.

The rain had come in warm and hard over the reeds, and neither of them had run for cover.

Now the water was sheeting off the brim of the pier roof, and his grey robe was soaked dark to the skin.

She had her hand flat on his chest, pushing him into the wood.

"Stay," she said.

"I'm staying."

"Hands on the post."

He put his hands behind him on the post, palms on the slick timber.

His hair was plastered to his neck, and rain ran off his chin onto her mouth.

She kissed it off him.

She kissed him slow this time, deep and wet, her tongue in his mouth.

He made a sound in his throat, and his hands twitched on the wood.

"Leave them there," said Luoyi.

"You are very hard to obey when you taste like rain."

"Try."

She pulled his sash loose and let it fall in the mud.

His trousers were wet through and clinging, and the shape of his cock stood out against the cloth, thick and hard.

She ran her palm up it once, slow, from root to tip.

He banged his head back against the post.

"You've been like this since we left the house," she said.

"Since you took your shoes off to wade."

"My feet did this to you?"

She laughed into his neck and squeezed him through the wet cloth, and his hips jerked forward into her hand.

"Now you can use your hands," she said. "On me."

He did not need telling twice.

He dragged the front of her robe open, and the rain hit her bare tits, warm and stinging.

He looked at them for one long second, water running off her nipples.

"Oh," he said, reverent as a man in a temple.

"Look at you. You're running with rain. You're the best thing on this whole river."
