Chapter 18: Hers
The Orchid Garden of the Abyss lay open to the sky.
At midday the sky was a dull red coin hung over a field of black blossoms.
The blossoms were as big as dinner plates.
They smelled of smoke and honey, and the moss under them was thick and soft and warm from the volcano below.
Qinghe had walked Jinye here by the hand, in the full light of day, with nothing on but a dark silk robe.
He wore the same.
She had sent every servant out of the garden with one look.
"Here?" he said.
"Here. Where the whole sky can see."
"The sky is not looking."
"Then it's missing something."
She pushed him down onto the moss.
He fell back with a laugh, and the black flowers shook, and a cloud of gold pollen rose around his head.
She knelt over his hips and untied his robe.
It fell open on both sides.
There he was in the red daylight, his chest heaving, the pale seam over his heart, and his cock already half hard against his stomach.
"I said you would be marked," she said.
"You did."
"Hold still."
She bent and set her teeth in the muscle of his shoulder.
He hissed and arched.
She bit harder, slowly, until she felt the skin give under the pressure and not break, and she held it there.
Then she let go and looked at the deep pink print of her teeth.
"Again?" she asked.
"Please."
She bit the other shoulder.
She bit his collarbone, and the soft place below his ribs, and the hard line of his hip.
Each time he groaned, and each time his hands, which she had told to stay in the moss, curled tighter in the roots.
"You're grinding against nothing," she told him, and kissed the new mark. "Stop it."
